Tattoo Removal Q & A

What is laser tattoo removal?

If you have an unwanted tattoo, SINY® Dermatology has good news. With a laser-based treatment, they can break up the pigment in your tattoo to help your body naturally process it out, leaving you with clearer, more even skin in the area.

Laser tattoo removal is an FDA-approved, extremely effective treatment that’s ideal for people with tattoos of any size located anywhere on the body.

How does laser tattoo removal work?

During laser tattoo removal, your dedicated SINY® Dermatology practitioner targets the pigment in your tattoo with a laser. The laser is calibrated to treat the unique colors of pigment in your tattoo.

Black pigment is the easiest tattoo color to treat and remove because it absorbs all laser wavelengths. To target other colors in your tattoo, the SINY® Dermatology tattoo removal expert adjusts the wavelength of the laser so that it is absorbed by that specific color.

As the pigment in your tattoo absorbs the laser energy, it begins to break down. Once broken down, your body absorbs and processes out the pigment, leaving your skin clearer and more even.

Most patients describe laser tattoo removal as uncomfortable, but they can tolerate it without the use of any anesthesia. SINY® Dermatology provides you with a topical numbing cream to help you feel comfortable during your treatment.

What should I expect after laser tattoo removal?

If your tattoo was very old or very light, one tattoo removal treatment may be sufficient to remove it. For most tattoos, however, multiple sessions are required to break up the majority of the pigment so the tattoo is no longer visible.

Laser tattoo removal is highly effective, but the results depend on your skin, the size of your tattoo, its age, the depth of the pigment in your skin, and other factors. As a result, SINY® Dermatology cannot guarantee that this treatment will completely eliminate your tattoo.

That said, they will work with you to develop a treatment plan that gets you as close as possible to your desired result.

You may have thought your tattoo was permanent when you received it, but laser treatments have unlocked new possibilities.
