Acne Q & A

What causes acne?

Acne, which usually develops on the face, neck, chest, back, or shoulders, occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells.

The resulting blemishes can become deeply inflamed or turn into painful cysts when bacteria makes its way inside oil-blocked pores and multiplies.

While acne is still most common among teenagers, the skin problem is widespread among adults. Stress, hormonal fluctuations, and genetics can make women, in particular, more prone to routine breakouts in their 30s, 40s, and even 50s.

Why is it important to treat acne?

Recurrent acne can seem like an endless problem. Just as one breakout starts to clear up, a fresh one emerges to take its place.

Letting each breakout or blemish simply run its course may seem reasonable, but allowing acne to go untreated can lead to skin discoloration and even scarring.

To reduce the risk of lasting skin damage, it’s important to start a customized acne treatment plan as early as possible. Even though acne can’t be cured, it can be greatly minimized and kept under control with the right approach.

Effective acne protocols usually combine personalized skincare recommendations with topical or oral medication, in-office treatments, and acne-friendly diet and lifestyle changes. The team at SINY® Dermatology offers a complete menu of advanced treatment options, including:

  • Laser therapy

  • Photodynamic therapy

  • Chemical peels

  • Microneedling

Besides treating acne and clearing your skin, these solutions help improve the tone and texture of your skin, brighten your complexion, and eliminate future breakouts.

What are the benefits of laser therapy?

Laser therapy is an ideal way for people with moderate to severe acne achieve and maintain optimal skin clearing.

Laser therapy treats existing acne and helps prevent future breakouts by targeting overactive sebaceous glands, or the oil-producing glands that fuel and sustain acne breakouts.

Using a specialized handheld device that’s systematically passed over the surface of your skin, the treatment delivers therapeutic levels of laser energy through each layer of tissue, where it gently heats your skin cells from the inside out.

On top of calming overactive oil glands to reduce acne and put an end to chronic breakouts, this internal thermal reaction also encourages collagen growth and elastin renewal to tighten underlying skin structures and revitalize your complexion.
