Wrinkles Q & A
What causes wrinkles?
As you get older, your skin produces less collagen, which is a protein that makes your skin both pliable and firm. Without the collagen, your skin loses its support system, causing it to fall and fold, leading to lines and wrinkles.
While age plays a major role in the formation of wrinkles, there are a number of environmental factors that may increase your risk, such as:
- Sun exposure
- Smoking
- Constant squinting or smiling that causes lines to form
How do chemical peels improve lines and wrinkles?
A chemical peel exfoliates the top layer of your skin to reveal newer, younger looking skin underneath. The team at SINY® Dermatology uses two highly effective chemical peels, including The Perfect™ Derma Peel Theraplex® Beta-Lift R Peels.
Both treatments contain an acid that rejuvenates your skin to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The experts at SINY® Dermatology determine which treatment is best for you after a thorough examination of your skin.
What is laser treatment for wrinkles?
As an office that provides advanced treatment options for patients, the team at SINY® Dermatology also offers photofacial laser treatment to minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles. This noninvasive treatment uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to stimulate collagen production and rejuvenate your skin.
For best results, the team at SINY® Dermatology recommends four to six treatments at three to six-week intervals. Each treatment takes about 20 minutes. You may notice a significant improvement in your skin within three weeks of treatment.
How can I take care of my skin at home?
Whether you had specialized treatment or not, it’s important to take good care of your skin at home to prevent lines and wrinkles.
To help you get started, the team at SINY® Dermatology offers their own line of creams and lotions to keep your skin smooth and youthful. They also design an at-home treatment plan specifically for you to meet your individual skin care needs.
In addition to the specialized creams and lotions, the team at SINY® Dermatology also recommend you use sunblock daily or cover up to reduce sun exposure.
